Making Moments Matter an Erasmus plus co funded Project with HOPE! Portugal

At St John of God Dementia Care at St Joseph’s we know what an impact volunteers and a vibrant volunteer programme can make to the lives of people living with dementia.

We wanted to share our knowledge and we were delighted to be awarded funding for an Erasmus + co-funded project called Making Moments Matter with our partner organisation HOPE in Portugal.

Hope is an organisation that focuses on global health and social
inclusion, specifically within the realms of aging and dementia.that facilitates volunteer programmes for people living with dementia must be grounded in
the aim of improving the lives of these individuals
within care homes.

We developed a Making Moments Matter charter and a manual for carers.

We based our charter on the six essential pillars of the Investing in Volunteers best practice framework, ensuring a comprehensive approach to volunteering that positively impacts people living with dementia, their families, and our
dedicated volunteers.

We encourage everyone to take a look at the charter and we are committed to sharing our manual and the advice given in the manual to colleagues within the sector in Ireland and in Portugal.
