Saint Joseph’s Shankill shortlisted for Charity Impact Awards

The team at Saint Joseph’s Shankill are thrilled to be shortlisted for the 2020 Charity Impact Awards, in recognition of their work and care for people living with dementia and their families.  They are calling on their supporters now to cast their vote in support of their application at www.charityimpactawards.ie.

Shortlisted in the Large Charity Organisation category, they are in competition with very well-known and highly regarded national not for profit organisations, including, Barretstown, Lauralyn Children’s Hospice, 50808, and Threshold.  Commenting on the news, Siobhan Grant, fundraising manager at Saint Joseph’s Shankill said,

‘We are truly honoured, humbled and excited by this tribute to the care we provide for people living with dementia and their families.  2020 has been such a difficult year for everyone here.  The constant threat of Covid 19 entering our home, may have halted our day care service and all visiting and volunteering at Saint Joseph’s, but it has not changed the way we care for people living here, looking after not just their physical and clinical needs but their very specific, social, psychological, emotional and spiritual needs are as important to us in caring for the whole person.’

Siobhan continued;

‘We know we have huge support in our community, as 10,000 people signed a petition to Save Saint Joseph’s when we shared news of our funding crisis late last year (which is still unresolved), we really hope that our supporters and community can get behind us and vote for us in our category.’

As a part of the application process, families were asked to comment on the impact that Saint Joseph’s has made to them.  One family member thanked the team at Saint Joseph’s by saying;

‘No gift or words of thanks can express how grateful we are as a family for your compassion and care of our dad, you all go beyond the call of duty, you have given us peace in our hearts in a tragic time of our lives, you are all just magnificent.  Thank you for caring for our father and everyone who lives at Saint Joseph’s.’

Voting opens from Friday 23rd of October until the 25th of November at www.charityimpactawards.ie and the winners will be announced on Tuesday, 8 December at a very special online awards ceremony.

2020 Charity Impact Awards

The Charity Impact Awards, established and run by The Wheel, celebrates the work of charities, community groups and voluntary organisations that have changed Ireland and the world for the better.

Now, more than ever, we see the vital role that such groups play in society. They provide a vast range of services, supports, and opportunities to our communities, and have been a lifeline during the COVID-19 crisis this year.

The 2020 Charity Impact Awards recognise these achievements, shining a light on the crucial work done by those who are often too busy making a difference to tell the world about it.
